The competitive swimmers of Ulster all gathered this weekend at the Grove swimming pool in Belfast to compete in the Ulster Championship Age Groups.
These are the pinnacle of the Ulster Swimming calendar and the Enniskillen Lakelanders were well represented. It was also the last time that any competitive Gala would be staged at the Grove, an end of an era really.
There were some great performances from all the Enniskillen and swimmers and in particular the performances of the relays, both girls and boys, was very spirited and exciting.
They both narrowly missed the medals but gave the spectators and parents plenty to cheer about.
Two Enniskillen Lakeland swimmers stood out.
Kevin Murray and Sally Burrell gave outstanding performances over the three days of the championship and were named top boy and top girl in their age groups respectively.
Kevin showed his class and won gold medals in the 400 freestyle, 200 freestyle, 100 butterfly, and a silver in the 200 fly 100 backstroke. He was really most unfortunate to be disqualified after winning two gold medals in other events as well due to a technical infringement.
Sally Burrell won gold medals in the 100 breaststroke, 200 breaststroke, and 200 IM and silver is in 400 Freestyle ,100 freestyle and 100 fly and bronze in the 200 Freestyle and showed once again what a remarkable talent she is and turned in gutsy ,top drawer performances in the face of top competition.
Evlin Murray one a bronze medal in the 100 Breaststroke and 200 IM. This was indeed a magnificent achievement for the 10-year-old swimmer in her first Championships. A talent to watch . Ben Parkinson, Carl O' Reilly, Sarah Tracey, Damhán Sanderson, Alanah Leonard and Abbie Parkinson all swam particularly well each achieving a personal best time in their own events.
