£1.7 million Henry Street widening contract awarded

The Roads Minister, Conor Murphy has announced that the contract to complete the road widening scheme at Henry Street in Enniskillen has been awarded to Belfast based firm, Lagan Construction Ltd.

The scheme involves the provision of an additional lane on the western approach to the town, and it also incorporates a combined footway/ cycleway linking through to Castle Barracks.

The Minister, who recently visited Enniskillen and met with Fermanagh Councillors stated: "This scheme will allow a greater number of vehicles to pass through the Henry Street/Wellington Road junction, thereby reducing queues on Henry Street/Sligo Road which are usually extensive at peak times.

The scheme will also extend the existing cycle network across Castle Bridge and along Henry Street."

It is envisaged that the construction element of this £1.7 million scheme will commence in March this and will be completed by October next.

This scheme is included in the Regional Strategic Transport Network Transport Plan 2015.

The construction element of the scheme is valued at around £850,000. The total scheme cost, which includes land and consultants fees, will be around £1.7 million
