Fortress Brewster? Well maybe not quite a fortress but Fermanagh's preferred home venue has proved a a difficult place to win for visiting teams over the last number of years.
The last time Fermanagh played on Brewster Park was in 2006. On that occasion Donegal emerged victorious in a fourth round qualifier game. That game was the 10th Championship game since 2000 played on Enniskillen Gael's home pitch and only the third defeat. Seven other Championship 'home' wins have come Fermanagh's way in that time.
Outside of Championship action there were also memorable wins in the league against Tyrrone, Dublin and Mayo, to name but three.
The pitch closed for some much needed ground work and for the erection of floodlights and there is no doubt that Fermanagh suffered as a result of playing their games away from their home pitch.
Last season, only two matches were played within the county, both coming in the Dr McKenna Cup. In league and Championship, Fermanagh was forced to travel to other counties to play their home games. While not the deciding factor in a miserable year, the loss of true home advantage was certainly a militating factor in Fermanagh's demise. This year, playing in division three and in front of smaller attendances, home games were played within the county but Sunday will be the first time back on Brewster Park and all Fermanagh supporters will be hoping that a win can be achieved and their impressive home record maintained.
The Championship results at Brewster Park since 2000 are as follows:
2000 One win against Monaghan
2001 One win against Donegal and a defeat against Monaghan and a defeat against Donegal
2002 No games
2003 One win against Donegal and one win against Cavan
2004 One win against Meath
2005 No games
2006 One win against Antrim and one win against Wexford
2007 No games
