A joiner from Ederney faces a £500 fine and has been disqualified from driving for one year after a number of motoring offences brought him before a recent sitting of Fermanagh Magistrates Court.
Resident Magistrate Peter Murphy heard how on the 18th March this year, Ciaran Peter Donnelly from Cloy Road, Edenamohill Park, Ederney committed five offences including driving with excess alcohol, resisting a police constable, driving without insurance and without a vehicle test certificate and failed to produce a licence.
Defending, Michael Fahy told the Court that the loss of Donnelly's licence would cause immeasurable difficulties for him given the course of his work as a joiner as he would have to find alternative ways to travel. He explained that the vehicle his client was driving at the time in question was a stock car and not fit for the road at all. However, the defendant he submitted, was travelling no further than 700 yards up to his house when he was detected.
Mr Murphy said Donnelly's behaviour was disappointing and said the level of alcohol consumed was extremely high.
For the drink driving offence Mr Murphy imposed a £100 fine and disqualified him for 12 months, deeming him suitable for the drink drivers course, which on successful completion would reduce his ban by three months. He further imposed a £100 fine for each of the remaining offences.
