Hannah clears up in Derry

The NI regional General Gymnastics competition took place in the new Twisters Gymnastics Centre of Excellence on Saturday. Again the advanced Splitz Gymnasts were present to show off their skills on the floor, beam and vault.

In the level 3 in age competition Cliodna McElroy performed well on both the vault and the beam achieving 2nd (vault) and 3rd (beam). It was in the level 3 out of age competition that the Lisnaskea gymnasts really excelled.

On floor the Splitz girls had a 1, 2, 3. Auveen Shannon coming 3rd, Megan Murphy came 2nd and Hannah Crozier came 1st. On vault Megan Murphy came 2nd and Hannah Crozier came 1st, on beam Lynn Malcomson picked up bronze with Megan and Hannah picking up the silver and gold medals respectively. The hard work and consistent performances of both Megan and Hannah left them with further medals in the overall competition, Megan picking up the Silver and Hannah completing her collection with another gold.

The standard in the level 4 competition had risen dramatically since the last competition.

The in age category saw Ciara Shannon placed 3rd on vault, the only medal for the Splitz girls. In the level 4 out of age competition the Splitz girls put up a good showing on vault with Lindsey Phair 3rd and Niamh Clarke 2nd. Catherine Carey came back strongly after picking up an injury on vault and placed 3rd on beam.

Due to their high level of performance in the previous competition, two of our gymnasts, namely Sinead Comar and Cliodhna Reihill, were presented with the much more challenging level 5 competition.

Here the girls are expected to perform high levels of tumbling passes along with difficult choreography to music of their choice on floor and a much more challenging beam routine. Both girls displayed excellent work on all three pieces on apparatus but narrowly missed out on a top three placing.

Congratulations to all of the gymnasts who participated.

All gymnasts who have now participated in at least two NI regional competitions have now qualified to compete in the NI General Gymnastics Championships on May the 25th.
