Creamery signs deal with Sainsbury's

Fivemiletown Creamery recently completed a deal with Sainsbury's which will mean their Mature Irish Cheddar becomes the first Northern Ireland cheese to be part of the supermarket's premium Taste the Difference (TTD) range.

The deal, worth tens of thousands will see the cheese being stocked at all ten Sainsbury's stores in Northern Ireland, including the new store in Dungannon which opened on Monday last.

Michael McCambley, Northern Ireland Commercial Buyer for Sainsbury's commented: "It is a fantastic boost for local suppliers to see Fivemiletown's Mature Northern Irish Cheddar chosen as a 'Taste the Difference' product.

"Every product within this Sainsbury's range uses the finest ingredients, follows traditional recipes and customers really can taste the difference.

"We are totally committed to working with local suppliers, and this contract win by Fivemiletown Creamery further highlights the quality of the food available in Northern Ireland. We hope that there are many more local products which will soon be in the range."

Kevin McManus, Sales Manager at Fivemiletown Creamery added: "We are delighted that our award-winning mature cheddar, which is made using only milk from farmers within a 15 mile radius of the creamery, will be stocked within the 'Taste the Difference' range".

He explained that the cheese was the only Northern Irish Cheddar to have won an award at the British Cheese Awards last year, and this contract win built on that success.

"We are passionate about all of the cheeses we make', he said, " and our standards are extremely high. Sainsbury's 'Taste the Difference' range follows in the footsteps of companies from all over the world which stock our cheeses, including Galleries La Fayette in Paris, Park n Shop of Hong Kong, and Dean & Deluca's of New York."

Fivemiletown Creamery Taste the Difference Northern Irish Mature Cheddar will be available in Sainsbury's stores from 15th May. The cheese will retail at 99p per 100g.

Sainsbury's in Northern Ireland currently sources almost £250 million of goods from over 100 suppliers based in Northern Ireland.
