Upper hand
for Fermanagh in four year sequence

For a four year period at the turn of the century, 1999-2002, Fermanagh and Monaghan clashed in the Ulster championship.

The derby rivalry was always an intense one but it proved to be a generally satisfactory saga for Fermanagh as they came out winners on three occasions.

The only blot on achieving a 100 per cent record came in 2001 when, despite going into the Brewster Park meeting of that season as pre match favourites, Fermanagh crumbled in the face of a committed Monaghan effort.

Since 2002 the paths of the counties have not crossed in provincial championship but there has been one fairly recent tussle in the NFL in February 2006 at Clontibret in Monaghan.

Here Fermanagh again came out on top, the win fashioned by a snap goal early in each half. Monaghan were to be relegated at the end of that campaign, Fermanagh stayed up but in 2007 the teams by passed each other moving in opposite directions.
