A 62-year-old Lisnaskea man has been disqualified from driving for three years and faces a £100 fine after he drove while unfit and came before a recent sitting of Fermanagh Magistrate's Court.
Resident Magistrate Peter Murphy heard how at approximately 9.00pm on the 18th April this year, police received reports of a suspected drink driver in the Newtownbutler area. The defendant William Johnston from Trasna Way was driving at 15 miles per hour with a queue of traffic behind him.
He was stopped and found to be unsteady on his feet and smelling of strong intoxicating liquor.
He was arrested on suspicion of drink driving and conveyed to Enniskillen police station where he failed to provided a specimen of breath.
Defending, Bernard Corrigan told the Court that his client suffered from angina and that may have contributed to his inability to provide a specimen.
He submitted that he had a significant record with one relevant recent entry in 2001. He urged the Magistrate to consider his early plea. For the offence a three year driving ban and a £100 fine was imposed.
