A 34-YEAR-OLD Derrygonnelly man has been fined £350 and banned from driving for nine months after a careless driving charge brought him before Fermanagh Magistrate's Court.
District Judge Liam McNally heard how on May 18 Mark Magee from Slisgarrow was driving an Isuzu Trooper along the Brollagh Road in Garrison when his vehicle collided with a garden wall. He had been travelling on his own when the vehicle left the road and collided with the wall.
Damage was sustained to two stone pillars. He was conveyed to hospital and informed that he would be reported for the offence.
Defending, Sean McHugh said the defendant accepted he was involved in an accident and taken to the hospital but said he had no recollection of the matter.
He accepted that he suffered from concussion and he had sustained back injuries.
The vehicle involved belonged to his father.
He accepted that his driving fell below the standard required and on that basis had entered a guilty plea to careless driving. He knew the house holder of the wall and said he would make good the damage caused.
Mr McHugh said Magee was coming out of Garrison travelling from left to right when he failed to make a right hand bend leading to the collision.
He said he was a 34-year-old single man and a self-employed mechanic who was not working at present.
He said he had a relevant record but that his last offence was some five years ago.
Mr McNally noted that Magee had three convictions for drink driving.
For the careless driving charge he imposed a £300 fine and a nine month driving ban.
For the non production of a motoring document, he was fined £50.
