A Derrylin motorist who had no insurance, was driving without displaying 'L' plates and without supervision and who was driving a vehicle with excess alcohol has appeared before Fermanagh Magistrates Court charged in connection with the offences.
Christopher Myles (26) with an address at Main Street, Derrylin was charged after being detected by police on 27th December last year.
The court heard, in tendered evidence, that on the night in question, at around 12.20am, police observed the defendant sitting in an Escort van at the side of the Old Rossory Church Road, Enniskillen.
The defendant was in the driver's seat of the stationary vehicle and was talking on a mobile phone. The vehicle's hazard warning lights were also on.
When police went over towards the vehicle the defendant drove off and drove for a short while before stopping again.
When police spoke to the defendant they noticed he smelt of intoxicating liquor.
He failed a preliminary breath test and was arrested for driving with excess alcohol. It also emerged the defendant was a provisional licence holder.
For driving with excess alcohol, the defendant was fined £350 and was disqualified from driving for 12 months.
For driving without insurance the defendant was fined £300 and was disqualified from driving for 6 months (concurrent).
For driving without supervision and without displaying 'L' plates the defendant was fined £75 on each count.
Crash caused by drunk pedestrian
A Brookeborough man who was walking in the middle of the road caused a motor collision when a motorist had to swerve to avoid hitting him, Fermanagh Magistrates Court has heard.
Before the court charged with endangering his own safety and the safety of others while being a pedestrian was Stephen Fredrick McCusker (34) from Lisolvan Terrace, Brookeborough who was fined £150.
The court heard that police responded to reports of a collision at 2.45am on 17th April 2006 along the A4 Dublin Road, Enniskillen.
Police spoke to the driver of a vehicle who said she lost control of her car after she had to swerve to avoid a man walking in the road.
Her car had gone off the road and crashed into a fence.
Police spoke to the defendant close by and noticed he was in an intoxicated state.
The defendant was described to the court as a Pipe Bender by trade.
Speeding driver overtook Police car
A speeding Tempo driver has appeared in court for committing an offence when he overtook a Police mobile patrol at Woodlough Road, Ballygawley on 2nd November.
Cookstown Magistrates Court heard that the police vehicle was overtaken by a car 'travelling at speed'.
Officers followed the vehicle and estimated the speed to be 90mph in a 60mph zone.
They stopped the driver, John William Coalter (20), an electrician from Ballyreagh Road, Tempo. The Court heard that, after being asked if he knew what speed he was travelling, the defendant replied: "I was going a bit too hard. Maybe around 70mph".
A defence solicitor said his client had made the 'unfortunate decision to overtake what turned out to be a Police car', and had co-operated fully at the scene.
The magistrate, Sara Creanor imposed a fine of £90 and applied three penalty points.
Driver admits breaching red light
A Leggs driver who contravened a red light at Dungannon Road, Ballygawley has appeared in East Tyrone Magistrates Court.
Niall Patrick McMahon (33) of Lowerybane, Leggs, Enniskillen admitted breaching the sign without reasonable excuse on 3rd August last year.
The case was adjourned until 14th March to allow McMahon to present his driving licence to the Court. An additional charge of careless driving was withdrawn.
Theft of vodka
Police are appealing for information following the theft of six bottles of vodka.
The alcohol was stolen from the rear store of Willie Rambler's Bar, Enniskillen, by three youths. They left the scene via Forthill Park.
