Police enquiries into the death of a 41 year old Belfast man who died last Tuesday in the Erne hospital after being discovered suffering from a head injury in Castle Archdale Caravan Park on Sunday (18th May) are continuing this week.
James (Jim) Patrick McGauran from Dunmurry was discovered in a sleeping bag by passers by close to a caravan in the park on Sunday 18th.
It was initially thought he was sleeping but, when it transpired he had suffered a head injury, he was taken to the Erne Hospital where he died two days later.
A man in his 30s who was arrested by police in connection with the incident was released on Wednesday evening.
Police returned to Castle Archdale Caravan Park on Saturday (25th) with a mobile police unit to speak to people there in the hope of jogging some memories about what happened on Sunday 18th May hoping to further their enquiries.
Mr McGauran's funeral took place on Monday of this week following the funeral Mass in Our Lady Queen of Peace Church, Dunmurray.
His remains were buried in Milltown Cemetery.
He was a son of Maureen and the late Tony McGauran and is also survived by his sister, Ann and his brother, Martin. His mother is a founding member of West Belfast Historical Society. He was not married.
It appears that Mr McGauran was one of a group of motor bikers who had stopped off at the caravan park on their way back from the North West 200. His sister, Ann, a journalist who is based in London, said the family were still coming to terms with her brother's death.
On behalf of her mother and her brother, she thanked the staff of the Intensive Care Unit at the Erne Hospital, 'for the wonderful care they gave my brother'.
"He was treated with great dignity and compassion", she said.
Two Erne North Fermanagh Councillors have extended their sympathy to the McGauran family. Councillors Tom Elliott, MLA and Bert Johnston condemned the assault.
