Belnaleck tumble again

BELNALECK ............................. 0-9

BROOKEBORO ........................... 1-9

The up and down season currently being endured by Belnaleck continues. After their encouraging victory over neighbours Derrygonnelly the previous week, the MacMurroughs came into last Saturday's home clash with Brookeboro in a confident frame of mind that they might be able to string together a sequence of results.

They started this game off brightly enough with a couple of early scores but they had been flattering only to deceive. By the time that the second quarter was underway Brookeboro had begun to look the more energetic and positive side and when a goal for the visitors was slammed in it turned the game emphatically around.

That goal was to separate the teams at the break and it was also to be the score that separated the teams at the finish.

Second half scoring didn't quite match the pace that had been shown in the first half, the teams restricted to just three points each as both sets of defences generally held the upperhand. Belnaleck worked hard to recover the lost ground but they were never able to seriously threaten the solid Brookeboro back division.

For Belnaleck Dwayne McNulty was a steady figure in the full back line and in the middle of the park Sean Lewisley tried hard to inject impetus into the team.

For Brookeboro, Karl Greene was the leading light in the attack and he was to be one of the game's more prolific scoretakers. Others to shine for them were defenders Gerry Flynn operating at corner back and Fergal Campbell in the half back line while John Mellarkey got through a lot of work in the centre of the park.

First half scores for Brookeboro came from Aiden Boyle, Ciaran Moane, Karl Greene and Ciaran Rooney but it was the goal from Niall Moane which was a pivotal score.

In the second half as the scoring rate flagged a lot of play became disjointed but Brookeboro always had the sharper edge about themselves and sporadically taken points, the last coming from Ciaran Moane ensured that they squeezed out the win.
