Enniskillen student James Coalter has received a scholarship from Queen's university in recognition of his achievement at A-level.
James, who is a past pupil of Portora Royal School, is undertaking the four-year MEng Electronics and Software Engineering degree at Queen's. A total of 21 students in the School of Electronics, Electrical Engineering and Computer Science each received a cheque for £1,000, having gained top grades in their A-level subjects.
All are studying a range of courses in electrical and electronic engineering or computing at the university.
Professor John McCanny, Head of the School of Electronics, Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at Queen's, said the number of students receiving Scholarships was reflective of the quality of students who the University is now attracting in the areas of computing and electrical and electronic engineering.
"With such a high demand for graduates in these areas in Northern Ireland and, indeed globally, it is the ideal time for students to choose degrees in these disciplines", he suggested.
"A good student studying any of our courses can expect to have a very successful career ahead of them, and we believe that the Scholarships will not only help them in the first year of their studies but is our way of recognising their achievements to date."
