Ederney hold annual tournament

Ederney ABC held their annual tournament in St Joseph's Hall recently.

Clubs from throughout Ulster were on show like St John Bosco ABC Donegal, Cityside boxing club in Derry and Banbridge ABC.

First into the ring for the home club was Boy 1 Jimmy Ward. He fought Christopher Mc Cann from the Enniskillen boxing club.

This was a great fight for which it was these two boys first fights. Jimmy ran out the winner with a final score of 10-6.

Next into the ring was John Ward a brother of Jimmy's. His opponent was T Nevin from the Tyholland club in Monaghan. This was a hard fought fight with John getting the win with a computer score of 8-5.

After this it was time for Curtis Timlin the Nine County Champion to step into the ring. He was facing D Wade from Cityside boxing club in Derry.

After three close rounds of boxing the score was level at 2-2 and after a countback the score was 4-4 so it had to go to the three judges and Curtis emerged victories with the judges score of 2-1.

Another Nine County champion was on show when Jordan Ligget fought C.McLaughlin from the Lisnafin ABC in Strabane. Jordan dominated the fight and forced his opponent to retire after two rounds of boxing.

Another great fight on show that night was Enniskillen's Oliver Kane when he fought K McShane from St John Bosco club in Donegal. McShane emerged the winner with a computer score of 9-8.

After the interval it was Irish Champion Laura Kelly next in the ring.

She was fighting Lisa Weir from the Cityside boxing club in Derry. After a very good show of women's boxing Laura won the contest 6-4. Next into the ring for the Ederney club was Duncan Ligget. He was fighting the slightly more experienced Adam Burney of the Banbridge club in County Down.

After a close fight the Banbridge man came out the winner of a score of 9-6. Last into the ring for Ederney was Mark Kelly who was fighting Cormac Nugent from the Bishop Kelly Boxing club in Eskra.

At the end of the fight the scores were tied at 3-3 and after a countback Mark edged out the winner 3-2.

Overall it was a great night for the Ederney boxers with six out of a possible seven boxers winning their fight.

Also Mark and Laura will be preparing for their Nine County Championships which will be on the December 5 in Toome. Ederney ABC would like to congratulate all the boxers that were on show on Friday night.

Also Ederney A.B.C would like to thank everyone that attended this great night of boxing and supported all the boxers. It was very much appreciated.
