Margaret, an inspiring learner, wins national award

Workers' Educational Association (WEA) learner, Margaret McManus from Maguiresbridge has been presented with a coveted ASET Learner of the Year Award. The presentation was made to Margaret by Carol Handley, ASET Director of Quality, at the New Horizons Centre in Enniskillen.

Margaret successfully completed a Personal Safety Awareness course with the WEA through the Enniskillen centre.

Her tutor Hazel Hicks, who nominated her for the award, explains why she is such a deserving winner: "Margaret was an outstanding learner on the course. She was, and continues to be, an inspiration to others. She overcame many challenges to complete the course and thoroughly deserves this award."

Through the course, Margaret's confidence, motivation and problem solving skills have improved and she now feels better equipped to take on new challenges including further courses to improve her personal and life skills.

WEA Director, Stevie Johnston said he was 'absolutely delighted' that a WEA learner had won the national award.

"Margaret is an extremely worthy winner and this is also recognition of the excellent learning opportunities provided by the WEA."

The WEA is a voluntary organisation that provides adult learning, mostly in community settings, to over 5,000 people per year.

It also produces resource materials and hosts conferences, seminars and workshops that assist communities in working together for a better society.
