Battling 'Skea just can't do enough

LISNASKEA EMMETTS

..................................1-16

BALLYSHANNON

AODH RUADH ........... 5 - 6

On a balmy late May Saturday evening the senior hurlers of Lisnaskea and Ballyshannon served up an excellent hurling game that enthralled the large attendance.

The Emmetts, who were at home for this fixture, were under the cosh for most of this match but staged a great come back in the games second half to all most clinch a late win.

It was the visitors, Aodh Ruadh's, Raymond Hughes that got this game off to a flying start when he clipped over a well taken point from play.

But that score was cancelled out by a Paul McManus free.

Parity was to be short lived however and Aidan Begley banged home Aodh Ruadh's first goal from play.

Paul McGolderick answered with a point from play for Lisnaskea and mid-fielder Barry Smyth added to his sides tally with another point.

Raymond Hughes, who was to have a huge ingfluence on the game then swooped for a goal and a point and suddenly a little daylight was being opnened up between the sides.

Jason McManus hit back with a point for Skea but Hughes found the net again for the visitors.

Another goal and a point before the break from Aodh Rua was answered by a couple of Emmett scores but the visitors went in to the half time interval with a nine point advantage.

In stark contrast to this matches first halve it Skea who held the upper hand in the scoring stakes in the second half.

Paul McManus, Barry Smyth and Jason McManus scored in quick succession and although Aodh Ruadh replied through Jonathan Dolan the Emmett's hit back with a well taken Kevin Smyth goal.

Paul McGolderick and Jason McManus narrowed margin but Aodh Ruadh's Paul Hughes halted the comeback when against the run of play he found the net for his sides fifth major score.

Undeterred Lisnaskea and scored the last three points of the game through two Jason McManus efforts and one from his brother Paul.

It was not to be enough however and Aodh Rua held out for a win.
