Back to business for Lee

It was back to normal business last weekend for Maguiresbridge's Lee Johnston racing at Donington Park in the 600 British Superstock championship. After his stunning results at the NW200, Lee was confident of an podium place on his Trevor Pennell Transport R6 Yahama and he didn't disappoint.

Practice was difficult with changeable weather but Lee turned in another great performance to secure third place on the front row of the grid.

Given the equal performance of the Superstock machines a good start is imperative and although he slipped to fifth on the opening few laps he was well in touch with the leaders.

Initial leader Leon Hunt was penalised for a jump-start effectively ruling him out of the results.

Lee continued to pick up places executing some superb passing manoeuvres on his way to the front.

Soon the race was between series leader Robbie Brown, Lee and South African A. J. Venter on the Triumph. The proverbial blanket would have covered all three riders as they swapped the lead and Lee was credited with the fastest lap of the race during the tussle.

It was always going to be close but a mistake by Brown let Lee through to take the lead on the 10th and penultimate lap, but unfortunately three corners from home on the last lap saw Lee run a little wide letting Brown back through to snatch the race by only 0.139 secs.

Lee in turn was only 0.2 secs in front of Venter in third place. Still – another podium, another superb race from the local rider who grows in stature at every race.

"I really thought I had that one," admitted Lee " but it was so windy out there and so many guys fell off that I'm still well pleased with the result."

Lee now goes to Snetterton next week for the fifth round of the championship in which he now lies joint second, only eight points behind series leader Robbie Brown.
