Preparations for the annual Enniskillen Horse and Pony Show which this year will be on Saturday 21st June, are well underway. Organisers hope that it will be the best show yet. Sponsors were invited along last week, to see the preparations for themselves.
Charlie and Trevor Howe from CT Improvements in Lisnaskea, said "We are delighted to sponsor the show, and hope that the everyone enjoys the competition." Mrs Mabel Morrow from Morrow Sandstone said that "It is great that a show such as this is run every year in Fermanagh, and we are pleased to be able to support it."
There is a full range of showing and jumping classes, so everyone should find something which suits them. The Leading Rein Class is confined to riders under 7 years, and is sponsored by Babylicious Nursery Store, Lisnaskea. Babylicious is hoping that riders who have graduated from rocking horses will be there on the day, on a real pony! There are also showing classes for broodmares, young stock, miniature horses, ridden hunters, working hunters and Connemara qualifiers.
In relation to the jumping classes, organisers are delighted that Fermanagh District Council have agreed to sponsor the Mini Grand Prix Class. Fences will be at a maximum of 1m 30cms, and the prize fund stands at £500. Mr John Chambers, Senior Course Builder explained "The ground conditions at Necarne are always superb. We are able to jump outdoors on grass regardless of the weather conditions, as the surface has been specially prepared, and is carefully managed." Mr Alex Baird, Chairman of Fermanagh District Council commented "I congratulate the committee on running the show so successfully, and wish everyone every success on 21st June." Other show jumping classes will also be run, from horse 90cms, and 128cm to 148cm pony jumping classes. For non-equine enthusiasts, there will also be a dog show on 21st. Again, a full range of classes are planned. Desmond Rolston explained, "We have been including the dog show classes for a number of years now, and it is always well supported. It means that more of the public can get involved, and have a bit of fun. There are a lot of dog owners in Fermanagh, and we hope that lots of family pets turn up on Saturday, and enjoy a good day out with their owners."
Showjumping classes will start on Saturday at 9.30am, and showing classes at 11am. The Dog Section will get underway at 2.30pm. Schedules are available by phoning 02866 387860 after 6pm, or entries can be made on the day.
