Being convicted of drinking and driving for the second time has led to an Enniskillen man being disqualified from driving for three years and facing a fine of £350.
Thirty-six year old David Martin Lewis, with an address at Devenish Crescent, Silverhill, Enniskillen appeared before a recent sitting of Fermanagh Magistrates Court charged with driving with excess alcohol.
The court heard that on 22nd April this year, around 12.40am, police received reports that the driver of a white Vauxhall Corsa had just left Wetherspoons and was suspected of driving after having consumed alcohol.
Police spotted the vehicle and followed it along the Shore Road before stopping the car and speaking to the driver, the defendant.
The defendant's speech was slurred and he smelt of intoxicating liquor. He was subsequently arrested and taken to Enniskillen Police Station where two evidential specimens of breath were taken, the lower reading being 53mg of alcohol in 100ml of breath 18 in excess.
Defending, Garry Smyth said his client worked as a machine operator but that he sustained an ankle injury recently which meant he wasn't able to work at present.
On the evening in question the defendant had been out for a meal and thought he was OK to drive. Mr Smyth said his client co-operated with police.
