A Derrylin businessman has been disqualified from driving for 12 months and fined £300 at Fermanagh Magistrates Court where he faced a charge of driving while unfit.
Brian McCaffrey (31) with an address at Teemore Road in Derrylin was detected by police on 22nd March this year.
The court heard that in the early hours of the date in question police were in the Derrylin area when they drove past the Mountview Hotel and noticed a number of cars in the car park.
Moments later when they drove back past the hotel they noticed a black Range Rover jeep driving out towards the main road with its headlights on.
Police stopped the jeep and spoke to the driver, the defendant, who had consumed a large amount of alcohol.
He was arrested and cautioned for driving while unfit to which he replied 'I was just parking her up'.
The defendant was put into the rear seat of the police car but refused a number of times to give police his name and address.
He then began to co-operate with police and when taken to Enniskillen Police Station he provided two samples of breath for analysis, the lower reading of 94mg of alcohol in 100ml of breath -59 in excess of the limit.
Defending, Raymond Ferguson described his client as a 31 year old company director.
On the night in question Mr Ferguson explained the defendant had ordered a taxi and had asked someone else to move his vehicle.
However, as the car was automatic no-one else would oblige so the defendant foolishly decided to move the car himself to park it in a more suitable location.
Mr Ferguson said his client accepts he shouldn't have been behind the wheel.
