A 36 year old Belleek man has been bound over to keep the peace for 18 months by District Judge Bonita Boyd when he came before Fermanagh Magistrates Court charged with possession of an offensive weapon, namely a shard of glass.
Before the court was Noel Patrick Mullane from Brollagh Road, Brollagh who faced the charge arising out of an incident on 1st January this year.
On the date in question police were called to a disturbance in Belleek.
As they were arriving they came across the defendant walking along the Garrison Road and they stopped and spoke to him.
Police searched the defendant and he volunteered that he had a shard of glass in his pocket.
The defendant told police he had been assaulted earlier and admitted he was afraid and was carrying the piece of glass with him for his own protection in case he was attacked again. Police spoke to the defendant and cautioned him for possession of an offensive weapon.
The prosecution service agreed that a binding over to the sum of £200 for 18 months was appropriate in the case with District Judge Bonita Boyd adding that the binding over specifically mention the defendant was to refrain from carrying any offensive weapons on his person.
