TEMPO ......................... 2-11
COA .............................. 0-8
Coa came up well short in this meeting with neighbours Tempo, this a rescheduled fixture played last midweek. The O'Dwyers were never really in the hunt at any stage though it was not until the second half that the gap separating the sides was stretched out as Tempo's command became more and more pronounced.
Leading the way in the Tempo's scoring charge was Brian Jackson who finished the sixty minutes with an impressive personal tally of two goals and six points. His first goal arrived around the ten minutes mark it jumped Tempo into a solid lead of five points.
The Maguires were to stall somewhat thereafter and in the lead up to the break, Coa were to have perhaps their best spell of the game managing to claw down the deficit.
Points from Lee McQuaid and Gary Lynch boosted their effort and in all they picked up a four points tally to leave themselves still in the picture as the second half got underway.
But in the third quarter the Coa challenge began to crumble and it was Tempo who gained authority in several sectors of the park especially in and around the centrefield area where Sean Breen and Thomas Dunne were in fine form.
Scores continued to flow for Tempo, Niall McCusker and Gabriel Dunne on the mark with Jackson also chipping in on a regular basis. Ten minutes from full time, any chance of a Coa resurgence was killed off by the second Tempo goal and in the end it was a comfortable success for the winners.
For them, Eamon Maguire had a good match in the corner forward slot with John Owens featuring in the defence and others to do well included Gabriel Dunne and Conor Meehan.
For a disappointing Coa team, Jack Harte worked manfully in the full back line and Lee McQuaid had his moments further up the park with Gary Lynch shooting a couple of scores but overall the team had a struggle on its hands to contain a confident Tempo side who dictated after the resumption.
