DERRYGONNELLY .......... 2-10
DEVENISH .................... 2-12
Devenish generally hold the upperhand over Derrygonnelly and that pattern was to continue in this brisk contest which served up a good standard of play and was to be one of the better league games of the season so far.
The entertainment level was of a more than decent order and that was established within a few minutes of the throw in for a goal popped up at either end to set the ball rolling.
Chris O'Brien steered home a Devenish penalty but there was no time for the Blues to celebrate this early boost as Derrygonnelly struck back immediately with a Kevin Cassidy goal.
The sides were then to trade points before Devenish embarked on a sizzling spree that saw them hoover up an impressive six points in a row. Terry O'Flanagan, Jason Love and John O'Flanagan all involved here as the Derrygonnelly defence was breached time and again.
Devenish seemed to be heading for an emphatic success but they were then to be pegged back by a resolute Derrygonnelly riposte which yielded points from Kevin Cassidy and Ryan Jones and with just a point separating the teams at the break it was still a wide open affair.
Devenish were again to enjoy a sparkling patch on the resumption as they hummed their way forward for a four points tally, Chris O'Brien and Terry O'Flanagan leading the way but again they looked to be shaping up for a solid victory.
Not to be for Derrygonnelly again dug up an answering rally, two points each from Cassidy and Jones clipping down the Devenish advantage.
Another blow for Derrrygonnelly was in the offing, this a second Devenish goal, a startling effort from Gavin Gallagher whose daisy cutter shot speared into the bottom corner of the Harps net.
Five adrift, Derrygonnelly badly needed a major response to keep their hopes alive. They were given it by an immediate Ryan Jones goal but though they were to press hard over the closing minutes in what had developed into a rousing battle, it was Devenish who hung on for the win which keeps them joint pacemakers at the top of the table.
For Devenish, Marty O'Brien was an outstanding presence in the middle of the park and Terry O'Flanagan had a fine match in the attack while Darren Brady also produced a steady effort.
For Derrygonnelly, Kevin Cassidy delivered a display reminiscent of other days and good support was forthcoming from Neil Gallagher and Eamon McHugh.
