DEVENISH ................................2-7
ENNISKILLEN ...........................0-11
Third win in a row for a high flying Devenish team as they saw off the challenge of visiting Enniskillen on Friday evening but it was not all plain sailing for the league leaders. They had an indifferent enough start to the game and it was a sharper Enniskillen team who were quickest out of the blocks.
The Gaels, with Ronan McCabe a quicksilver presence in their forward line, buzzed with purpose especially in the first quarter and they duly forged themselves into a decent lead.
It was a lead of four points which was to be maintained until the interval but as the half neared its conclusion there were signs that Devenish were beginning to find their feet after their low key opening.
A couple of points from John O'Flanagan and one from Kevin Ferguson went some way to steady the Devenish ship and immediately on the restart there was to be real tonic for the Blues as they snapped up the first of what was to be a critical two goal haul.
Within seconds of the throw in, Devenish had pounced for goal number one, a ball was hoisted over the top of the Enniskillen defence and John O'Flanagan was on hand to scoop up possession and then plant home his shot.
A bodyblow for Enniskillen and though they did come back with a point, the game had now taken a different turn. Devenish were now a more obvious presence and then arrived the second critical goal.
Sean Burns who has been having a terrific season for the Devenish side had moved to full forward due to injury and it was Burns who notched the score, winning possession close in on goal and then smartly putting away the opening.
Devenish had hauled themselves into the lead and they were able to further lift the tempo of their game over the final period.
Points from John O'Flanagan, Joe O'Brien and Burns eased them over the winning line with a two point margin to spare.
For the winners, Barry Carty was effective in the defence, Paul O'Brien did a good job when moved to curtail the top Enniskillen attacking threat, Ronan McCabe and Joe O'Brien had a lively second half effort.
For Enniskillen who didn't sustain the initial level of their determined play, Ronan McCabe was to have a good duel with new marker O'Brien and was the most threatening Gaels forward on view. Tom Brewster worked tenaciously around the centre of the park and Paul Gunn was sound in defence.
