rsfh3001008 -college award

Sarah Cox recently returned from The UK Springboard Awards for Excellence in Hospitality and Tourism with certificates of commendation in two categories for the work she has undertaken in her role as Hospitality, Catering and Tourism Development Officer in the college.

Sarah was the only short listed candidate from Northern Ireland at the prestigious award ceremony which was held in the Dorchester Hotel, London for the cream of the UK hospitality and tourism industry.

The two categories in which Sarah received recognition were The Education Award - Large Organisation and The Young People Award

The Education Award recognizes the importance of developing links between industry and education at every level and Sarah through her work has demonstrated initiatives which engage people of all ages and backgrounds to give them the chance to experience the world of hospitality at many different levels. People are encouraged to work towards industry related qualifications and progress within the sector. A well mapped out Hospitality Wheel Initiative helps add stability and continuity to the ongoing training.

The Young People award recognizes that young people are the life blood of the industry going forward. This award looked for initiatives specifically designed to encourage young people to partake in Hospitality and Cookery.

Sarah received commendation for her many bright ideas and programmes such as Cook Up Eat Up, The Red Pepper Summer School and F.A.T Events (Food and Travel) to name but a few.

All of the initiatives make an impact on the local area and so increase awareness and opportunities for young people.
