Young Damien McKenna (12), from Miltown Road, Derrylin added another string to his bow last Sunday in Monaghan when he lifted the Ulster Readoiri title for singing.
The competition is the talent competition that's organised annually by the Pioneer Movement.
He now goes on to represent his county and province in next month's All-Ireland finals in Portlaoise on 23rd February.
Damien is a son of Edward and Rosemary and was at school in the local St Aidan's High School when we called.
However, his mother filled in the gaps. She explained that Damien is a member of the local branch of comhaltas (traditional music) and held an Ulster title in it and a third at All-Ireland level.
"He's a bit of an all-rounder. He plays the accordion and the bodhran and has started recitations. At school, he seems to be equally interested in the academic side as well as in the football and hurling".
Damien's father is a former Derrylin star, so expect Damien to follow in his footsteps. For the moment, it's All-Ireland success with the song, 'Connemara Rose' that, so far has taken him to an Ulster title.
