In one of his first duties as Chairman of Fermanagh District Council Councillor Thomas O'Reilly visited the Bawnacre to cut the sod to start the site works for the construction of the new Play Park. The finance, £100,000.00, for the provision of the Play Park has been provided by Deane Public Works Ltd. During his visit Councillor O'Reilly met with George Deane, Managing Director, Deane Public Works Ltd, and on behalf of the Council thanked him for this support.
During June and July work will continue on the Play Park site which is located on the far side of the lower playing field at the Bawnacre Centre to ensure that the Park will be ready for primary and pre-school children to use during the forthcoming summer months.
When completed the Play Park will include an exciting and colourful variety of challenging equipment that will be both fun and easy to use. All the traditional playground items will be fitted in the new Play Park plus the brand new i.play system which will be available for the first time in N.Ireland having been demonstrated at Stormont last week. The i.play system, a new concept in play equipment is an exciting new development that combines both play and healthy exercises with it's solar panel system providing user friendly information and challenges. This innovative unit will be the centre piece of the new Play Park.
Councillor O'Reilly also met George Beacom, Bawnacre Centre Manager and Pat O'Flanagan, Grounds Supervisor, Fermanagh District Council and said he looked forward to returning for the opening of the new Play Park in the coming weeks.
He commented that the Council were committed to providing quality facilities for people of all ages in the County and interventions such as the new Play Park will help increase participation in sport and physical activity and at the same time reduce sedentary behaviour on account of the growing number of overweight and obese young people.
George Deane said he was pleased to be able to finance the provision of the Play Park as a facility for the community which he hoped would give endless hours of fun and enjoyment.
