Drugs arrests

A major police search, which police said was in relation to a suspected illegal drugs operation, took place at an address in Clogher on Sunday last.

Commenting on this weekend operation, a PSNI spokesperson said: "PSNI Drugs Squad and unformed officers from many policing districts have made a number of arrests across Northern Ireland in relation to the cultivation of cannabis plants at residential properties.

"A considerable number of plants have been recovered in this operation, in Belfast, South Armagh, mid-Ulster, South Down, Fermanagh, North Antrim and the North West.

"This pro-active operation", he reported, " is continuing and is targeting those involved in the growth of cannabis in Northern Ireland, a crime which can lead to 14 years in prison."
