A 21-year-old Irvinestown woman has been fined £125 and had had three penalty points endorsed on her licence after a number of motoring offences brought her before a recent sitting of Fermanagh Magistrate's Court.
District Judge Liam McNally heard how at approximately 2.15pm on Saturday 22nd December, the defendant Gillian Dalton from Briars Hill, a provisional driver, was driving a Vauxhall Nova car on the Coa Road, Ballinamallard when she was detected driving without 'L' plates. She was accompanied by a passenger but it emerged that they were a disqualified driver and so Dalton was further charged with driving while unsupervised.
Defending, Michael Sides told the Court that his client was a 21-year-old single lady who was currently unemployed. At the time in question she was travelling home to her house. Regrettably she panicked and lied about her driving status. She had passed her theory test but still hadn't got her practical test. She had no previous convictions at all. He submitted that there was nothing untoward about her driving and that the incident had proved to be a lesson. District Judge McNally said he would consider Dalton's clear record and early plea. For driving unsupervised he imposed a £75 fine and three penalty points. For failing to display 'L' plates, he imposed a £50 fine.
