The launch of an innovative and unique personal development programme specifically for women carers of children with a learning disability 'It's All About Me' took place this week in Enniskillen.
The Programme has already benefited 25 women carers in Fermanagh to date, and a further 14 are involved in the new programme and an associated Reach Me Programme designed for hard to reach, often isolated women carers.
The programme, helps women carers to get respite from their often stressful caring roles, while learning ways in which they can improve their physical, mental, emotional and spiritual well-being.
Joanne Corcoran, Manager of Positive Futures Lakeland Families Service in Lisnaskea said: "As a charity providing services for children with a learning disability and their families, we are very pleased to be associated again with such a carer focused, flexible programme which has proven to make a real difference to the lives of carers, helping them greatly to develop themselves as individuals and get time out of their often stressful caring roles".
Noreen Kettyles, Director of Me Unltd who has recently received an Award from Unltd the foundation for Social Entrepreneurs said at the launch: "We are delighted at the great response to this third It's All About Me programme. The carers, through the programme will have an opportunity to meet new people, make friends, develop contacts, share life experiences, develop new skills, and most importantly, have some 'me' time away from their caring responsibilities, with a few surprises thrown in along the way! "
This, the third in a series of programmes which have run over the past year in Fermanagh, has been supported by Positive Futures and by a wide range of Fermanagh based health, fitness and well-being providers through Me Unltd's Give-A-Care Scheme. The Scheme gives providers the opportunity to give something back to their community through providing their services free to carers. In the spirit of the whole Me Unltd Scheme, Women in Agriculture have given their support through use of their premises, and Catherine Robinson from Wardrobe Workout has given her time to discuss issues around personal image with the carers.
