Enniskillen continue good run

'C' MIXED ENNISKILLEN I SECURE RUNNER-UP SPOT

Enniskillen I continued their good run in the second half of their programme with another win, this time against Omagh II. They have been unbeaten in the second half of their match programme and were the only team to take a point off the newly crowned champions Omagh I. They finished their league on a total of 14 points, Omagh I being on 17 points with a postponed game v Irvinestown still to play.

Elsewhere in the 'A' and 'B' mixed, both sections will be hard pushed to complete the fixtures, with the Tennis Presentation evening set for Wednesday 9th July in Irvinestown LTC at the Bawnacre Centre.

ENNISKILLEN I 6 OMAGH II 2

Two of these results were incredibly close, both winning 7/5 in the 3rd sets. The first of these was at 1st Ladies, Enniskillen's Leonie Madigan/Ruth Armstrong beating Mary Coney/Karen Atchison 5/7, 6/4, 7/5. The second one occured at 4th mixed, the home side's Brenda Davis/Garth Armstrong edging out Omagh's Anne Louise Hicks/John Joe McCullagh 6/7, 6/2, 7/5. One other encounter, 2nd mixed, went to three sets. Omagh's Karen Atchison/Kenny Hicks won against Ruth Armstrong/Cyril Boyd 3/6, 7/5, 6/3. Omagh's other win was at 2nd ladies via Veronica Hawkes/Anne Louise Hicks. Enniskillen won both mens doubles via Stephen Millar/Cyril Boyd at 1st men and Scott Gilbride/Garth Armstrong at 2nd men. Stephen had another win partnering Leonie Madigan as did Scott Gilbride partnering Patricia Durnien.

OMAGH II 3 IRVINESTOWN 5

This match proved to be a really entertaining and exciting encounter with a really gripping finale. Omagh took 1st ladies doubles via Mary Coney/Karen Atchison in two sets, as did Irvinestown 's 2nd men Brendan McGuinness/Steve Beaumont. At this stage the other two doubles contests were at one set each. Play was suspended by agreement in both these matches so as to play the mixed, three of the four mixed went to three sets, with Irvinestown winning three - 1st, 2nd and 4th.

With the score 2-4 to Irvinestown, the final sets had to be played in 2nd ladies and 1st men. Both were excellent final sets with Omagh's Veronica Hawkes/Anne Louise Hicks beating Catherine Taggart/Fiona Donnelly 7/6 and James Meade/David Lowe securing the win for Irvinestown against Gareth Loughrey/Kenny Hicks on a score of 6/4

BUTT HALL 5 IRVINESTOWN 3

It was an even at the break, Butt Hall winning through Gillian Porter/Helen McDaid at 1st ladies and Freddie Lusson/Michael McDaid at 1st men. Irvinestown's winners were Ailsa Johnston/Catherine Taggart at 2nd ladies and William Britton/Brendan McGuinness at 2nd mens. On then to mixed series, with Butt Hall winning1st, 2nd and 4th, Irvinestown's only success coming at 3rd mixed.
