'Little' nerves give
Fermanagh a second bite

Caroline Little determined to hand onto possession.

FERMANAGH........................... 1-10

CAVAN ................................... 1-10

A cracking Ulster Ladies Intermediate football final ended in a draw between Fermanagh and arch rivals Cavan.

It took an injury time free from Caroline Little to earn Fermanagh a draw in this end to end game and when the final whistle did eventually blow a draw seemed the fairest result.

Fermanagh, looking for revenge after last years final defeat against Cavan started slowly falling three one down after the opening ten minutes.

Sharon Little had equalised Aislene Doonan's opening score for Cavan but two points from Roisin O'Keefe and Sharon Cassidy saw Cavan take a two point lead.

Not to be outdone by her sister Caroline Little, who was to have a forceful game from midfield fired over two points two even up the contest. But parity was to be short-lived and Cavan sped into a four point lead with a hat rick of points from Doonan and Bronagh Sheridan point.

Needing to get back on track the Fermanagh girls did so in style with Aisling Moane storming forward from midfield to take a neat pass off Shauna Hamilton before finding the net.

Only a point behind now Fermanagh continued to press and in injury time of the first half the busy Marcella Connolly struck a neat point to draw the sides level for the third time.

And things were to get better for the Erne girls after the break when they responded to a Cavan point with two of their own. Connolly and Moane the markswomen. This gave Fermanagh the lead for the first time in the game but it was to be short-lived with the Breffni girls bouncing straight back with a goal, Brid Boylan rounding the keeper to slot home in style. Fermanagh never dropped the heads however and fought back bravely.

Moane and Connolly again registered scores to bring the game back all square but player of the match Bronagh Sheridan slotted over what looked to be the winning score for the Cavan girls.

But then in the last moments of injury time up stepped Caroline Little to split the posts from a pressure free.

Deadlock after 60 minutes and all still to play for. A fantastic advertisement for women's football.
