£40,000 play area opens in Belnaleck

Two Fermanagh clergymen, Fr John Finnegan, PP Cleenish and the Church of Ireland Rector, Rev Geoff Bridle jointly opened a new £40,000 play area at Waterhen Lane, Belnaleck which was constructed under the supervision of Fermanagh District Council's contracts manager, Alvin Edwards.

A spokesman for the Belnaleck Community Group, through the 'Herald', thanked Mr Edwards and the Council on their input. Robert Gibson, the Council's Director of Leisure Services, was among those who attended the launch.

The spokesman explained that, with the boom in new houses in and around the village, a play area was needed for youngsters in a safe area. The new facility is located down Waterhen Lane near the marina, but protected from it.

Alvin Edwards explained that the play area had a safety surface in the critical areas and that outside of the critical areas, the surface was standard bitmac.

"It is a modern play area," he added. "We would like to consider it's impressive. It is now available for use by children of people from the village and, also, by kids from people using the marina".
