COA ..................................................... 1-11
ROSLEA ............................................... 1-10
After a number of indifferent displays, Coa finally called a halt to their poor run with this win over visiting Roslea. It was to be a tight run thing for them however and they had to battle hard to overcome a committed Roslea challenge.
First half had been a very balanced tussle, the teams never separated by anything less than the minimum. Three points each at the end of the opening fifteen minutes, six points each at the half way mark.
The pattern was to continue on the resumption, the teams trading another point each before Coa pounced for a 40th minute goal and when they eased four clear it looked like they had polished off the opposition. But Roslea had been very much in contention from the outset and they were able to resurrect their hopes with a goal in reply.
It all made for a tense finish but on this occasion Coa did have sufficient in reserve to fend off the opposition and they squeezed out a win which will boost their confidence and perhaps signal a run of better form.
For Coa, Damian Wardman was to be one of their stronger figures in defence while Cathal Beacom was to be a nimble figure in the half forward line. And again Darren McQuaid was to be a major asset to them in the centre of the park with another forceful display.
Mc Quaid was to also chip in with some first half points with Cathal Beacom and Lee McQuaid also on the mark for them at this stage of the encounter. Replying for Roslea were Shane McMahon and Conor Quigley.
As the game advanced into the third quarter points were to be traded again but then Coa made a decisive push forward when they snatched a goal, Christopher Harte fisting home their goal and Darren McQuaid followed this up with a pointed free.
Roslea were not to be dispatched easily however and they clawed their way back into the picture with a goal from James Boyle which clipped the deficit to the minimum.
It all made for a touch and go finish, Coa going two clear with a Cathal Beacom score but Roslea pushed hard to the end, they hit a point to leave it anyone's tie over a rousing climax.
For Roslea, Colm Reilly at wing half back was a sturdy presence, Cathal Rooney worked hard in midfield and James Boyle was a commanding full forward. For Coa, Damian Wardman was sound in the half back line and Cathal Beacom was the mainspring of the attack.
