BELNALECK ................. 0-14
DEVENISH .................... 4-9
Belnaleck were to rack up an impressive tally of points but in the end this scoring spree came to nought as they performed poorly back in defence, allowing opposing Devenish to collect a four goal tally, and this goal haul easily swung the result in the Garrison team's favour.
Two goals in the opening half eased Devenish into a five point lead and they were never to be headed thereafter. Belnaleck certainly worked extremely hard to bridge the deficit and they were able to produce some lively play in attack. Quite a number of their points were well created and well taken but they were to see two further goals conceded and in the end Devenish had plenty in hand.
Raymond Flanagan operating at full forward was the leading light in the Devenish attack in the first half as he popped in two goals and he also was on the points scoreboard. Conor Keown and John O'Flanagan were also on song for the leaders as they built up a secure lead.
Answering for Belnaleck, a five points tally for them, came scores from Joseph Heavey, Sean and Brian Lewisley.
The introduction of Dwayne McNulty at the break stiffened the Belnaleck effort and he was to be a significant figure over the closing half. James Corrigan in the middle of the park helped the team to gain a good foothold in this area and the attack was to work its way forward for a nine points haul.
Some fine place kicking from Joseph Heavey was a feature of the Belnaleck marksmanship but it was all an uphill battle for them as Devenish kept themselves in the comfort zone thanks to two more goals. Conor Keown and Darren Brady were to shoot these scores for Devenish and long before the end the result was wrapped up in favour of the 'Blues.
For Devenish, Niall Ferguson was a solid full back and ensured that Belnaleck never really got a glimpse on goal while Jason Love had some good moments in the middle of the park, Darren Brady always a presence in the attack.
For Belnaleck, Kevin Owens did some steady work at corner back, Martin Quigley was best in the half back line and Sean Lewisley and Joseph Heavey producing some fine play up the park.
