BELCOO ..........................................................1-10
TEMPO ............................................................1-5
Tempo's reign as two in a row minor championship holders came to an end in this replay at Maguiresbridge when they went down by five points to new kings on the block, the reigning league holders, Belcoo.
There was a pulsating start to the game for Belcoo as they found the back of the Tempo net within seconds of the throw-in. Winning immediate possession, they drove through an unprepared Tempo rearguard and Ryan Leonard hammered in a exceptionally well taken goal.
The score provided an immediate platform for Belcoo and it gave them a lead which they were never to surrender at any stage. By the time that the interval was reached they had eased six points clear and though Tempo did make a valiant effort over the closing thirty minutes to recover the lost ground, Belcoo were, in the main quite secure.
Midfielder Paddy Burns was to be one of the leading lights for Belcoo in this contest, helping to establish a sound presence in his area of activities and he was also to chip in with a number of scores that kept his team's scoreboard ticking over nicely.
Jonathan Feely was also to feature strongly in the Belcoo performance overall and having survived a scare in the opening game with this opposition, the O'Rahilly's are now on course to make a strong bid for the minor double.
Tempo were of course stunned by the rapid fire Belcoo goal and it was a blow from which they never really recovered. Defensively they were to be well served by Aiden Breen and Turlough Cox while Niall McCusker and Eunan McCann had their moments further up the park.
But generally it was an uphill struggle for them. They had just three points to their tally in the first half, Niall McCusker and Darragh McCaffery among those on the mark for them, Seamus Bogue pointing in the second half.
Their goal arrived some ten minutes from full time, Niall McCusker picking off the score and this did give them a glimmer of making a full recovery. But their challenge lacked real conviction, Belcoo playing a steady brand of football and with Eoin Leonard performing with steady application in the half back line and Brian Cox coming more into the game, Belcoo held on easily enough for their five points success.
