A regular feature of this paper is the steady flow of people from Fermanagh who give up their time to help people in Third World countries achieve a little happiness.
Seven Fermanagh volunteers recently returned from South Africa where as part of the Niall Mellon Building Blitz they helped build 78 houses for local homeless people, many of whom had been waiting for 15 to 20 years for a home of their own.
At the end of this month, two Fermanagh men will be flying out to Sierra Leone to help finish off a new school. One of them has already been there a few times doing voluntary work.
Just recently, a 19-year old Belleek student raised £6,000, far above what she had targeted, towards funding her six-week stay in Tanzania as a volunteer teacher.
And, a young Enniskillen woman is currently doing invaluable work in Zambia. And, another Enniskillen female student will shortly be heading off to Nepal as part of Projects Abroad to do her bit for those less advantaged than ourselves.
All of these paid their way and none could have made it without the help of their communities. We are a giving people, despite the bad times. That is to our credit.
