Hilarious comedy romp at Ardhowen's summer theatre

It's Belvoir Players this week on the Ardhowen stage with Sam Cree's hilarious comedy romp 'Widows' Paradise'. With performances on Thursday 17th, Friday 18th and Saturday 19th, its an opportunity for both visitors and locals alike to come and have an enjoyable side splitting evening.

It's a story of how five ladies, anxious to have a girlie weekend away, without the drudgery of their daily work and the encumbrance of their husbands arrive at a caravan in a fairly remote area of North Antrim.

However as they prepare for bed, to their horror they realise they are in the wrong caravan as three fishermen arrive back to their caravan for the night.

It is late and the only solution now is to try and share the caravan with a temporary curtain erected to cover their modesty.

However all is not plain sailing and in true Sam Cree style, it turns out to be a night of mayhem as all sorts of things start to happen. The performance begins at 8pm.

THE IMPORTANCE OF BEING EARNEST

Next week, the Southbank Playhouse presents Oscar Wilde's classic comedy of wit and manners in the Ardhowen Theatre on 24th, 25th and 26th July at 8pm.

It's the story of Jack Worthing, a country bachelor who goes by the name of Ernest when he pops up to the city; and his friend Algernon, who seeks a thrill by becoming Ernest in the country.

Jack proposes to Miss Gwendolen Fairfax while Algernon, posing as Jack's wicked brother Ernest, falls in love with Jack's ward, Cecily.

The question is; what will the formidable Lady Bracknell have to say? Southbank returns to the Ardhowen with this perfect piece of summer theatre which treats, as Wilde himself entreated, "all the trivial things of life seriously, and all the serious things of life with sincere and studied triviality."

LIVELY COMEDY

The talented Holywood Players present the final production in Ardhowen's Summer Season of Comedy when they present 'Two Of A Kind' by Hugh James. Set in a retirement home, Wally Wallis, a feisty old sea dog is determined to find ways to flout regulations and is definitely not Matron's ideal resident.

It's a lively comedy with lots of laughs and a nice one to finish the season. The performances run from Thursday 31st July to Saturday 2nd August at 8pm.
