Refuge and litter picking services provided by Fermanagh District Council are expected to be hit by a two day strike commencing today (Wednesday).
The UK-wide council strike, which continues tomorrow, involves the Unite union which is calling on Councillors and Assembly members to join the picket lines and support striking local government workers.
The strike is in a bid to increase wages by 6%. Unite's members, who include bin collectors and street sweepers, have rejected a pay increase of 2.5%.
Unite regional organiser, Sean McKeever said workers would be forming a picket line outside Council offices at the Townhall, Enniskillen.
He explained that the strike would have an impact over the next couple of days, with services most likely to be hit being refuge and litter picking. Leisure facilities, however, would not be affected.
Mr McKeever said workers were not taking action lightly, adding that while the dispute was not a personal challenge against Fermanagh District Council, it was a dispute against central government.
"We want to show our disgust with central government in their very degrading pay offer."
This was echoed by Jimmy Kelly, Unite Irish Regional Secretary, who called on the Stormont government to fund local government properly.
The union he said, wanted workers to be paid what it describes as, 'a decent living wage'.
"We call on Councillors and MLAs who support our members' demands to join us on the picket lines.
"They will be made very welcome," he said.
