Last weekend in Sligo, there were 4 Enniskillen competitors who participated in the West of Ireland Junior Open tennis tournament.
There was some great tennis played among the under 10s.
Laura Griffin in her first tennis tournament played very well in her first match with many strong shots from her forehand before losing in the third set in a tie break. Sarah Cousins, who was the youngest competitor there, also played very well, with spectators remarking on her very strong forehand. She eventually lost to her sister Hannah in the semi-final which was also a very close game, 6-4, 7-5. Hannah played excellent tennis in all her matches and this was reflected in her results. She never lost a set in any of her four matches. In the final Hannah overcame her opponent, Eimear Browne from Sligo, 6-4, 6-3 taking the trophy.
Jared Monaghan also from Enniskillen played fantastic tennis in all his matches. He narrowly lost the final to Gavin Durcan in three gruelling sets ending in a tie-break. In total Jared had played in excess of six hours and is definitely a junior with a future.
