Council takes grave step to up cemetery charges

From next April, Council charges relating to Breandrum and Cross cemeteries are rising, although there is no change in the erection of a memorial.

The purchase of right of burial for an adult goes up by £5, from £120 and £200 for residents and non-residents, and for children by £5, from the present £45/£75, residents and non-residents.

There is also an increase in the respective burial charges for a child and an adult, depending on whether they're resident or non-resident. The new fees are - £40 for a resident child, £70 for a non-resident child and, for adults, the relevant charges will be - £100 and £170. Cremation charges also go up, but only for non-residents (£100). There is no change in the existing £50 cremation charge for residents.

There is no change in the fee for hiring equipment for events, nor for the purchase of wheelie bins, wheeled bin delivery, bulky domestic refuse collection or the purchase of composting bins which remain at the present £5.

On the plus side, adults and young people won't have to fork out from 1st April to go up Cole's Monument in Enniskillen, but sporting clubs will have to dig a little deeper to cover the new charges for mowing of pitches (£105), burn lining of pitches (£85), marking and burn lining (£130), 'easiflow' lining (£53) and daily hire of burn liner (£37).

There will be a £10 increase in the cost of skip collection (£160), and minimal charges for dealing with trade waste.

The new landfill rates for standard waste per tonne will continue to be £49 along with an £8 landfill tax increase. Inert waste per tonne continues at £49 plus a 50p increase in landfill tax, to £2.50.

Special waste charges per tonne for burial will be £100 plus £32 landfill tax and, finally, the new charge for a sweeper and access hoist rises from £40 to £45.
