Dream prizes for best young GAA snappers

BY ALAN RODGERS

A.RODGERS@GAELICLIFE.COM

FANCY one day watching the All-Ireland Finals from the edge of the pitch. Then if you're at primary school age, the GAA has the answer that could see the start of your dream coming true.

The competition is organized by Croke Park, The GAA Museum and their sponsors Fuji.

Entitled 'A GAA Sporting Moment - From Your Club to Croke Park' the competition gives entrants the chance to capture a GAA-related sports moment.

The photo must be taken within the period March to August and submitted with an entry form as a printed or digital photo by August 31.

And, the prizes included two All-Ireland Final tickets, a digital camera and class trip to Croke Park which includes a photo workshop with Podge Kelly. The class trip will include a stadium tour and a visit to the GAA Museum.

One of the organisers of the competition is Eimear Doherty. She says the championship in particular will give schoolchildren the chance to 'get snapping.'

"We have launched the competition and are looking forward to many entries coming in steadily during the coming months. There's still plenty of time to think of ideas and bring them to fruition," she said.

"This is the first time that the GAA and the GAA Museum have organised a competition such as this. We're confident that it will give schoolchildren a chance to portray the gaelic games in pictures.

"The prizes are brilliant and you never know some of those who enter might go onto to have careers as GAA photographers.

"At the moment we're contacting schools to try to raise awareness of the competition and the fact that it's such a great opportunity for children to be imaginative about illustrating the GAA and what it means to them," she added.

Another key aim of the competition is to increase awareness in the Museum and the Croke Park Experience.

It is hoped that children will get involved from club to county level, from club grounds to Croke Park and record their most memorable moments from the entire GAA season.

For entry forms, please contact Eimear Doherty at Croke Park on edoherty@crokepark.ie" edoherty@crokepark.ie or 01 8192342. Further details are available from the following websites: www.gaa.ie; www.crokepark.ie / http://museum.gaa.ie and www.fujipix.ie.
