Message from the editor

IT’S by far the biggest sport in Ireland. Whether you’re talking supporters or player participation the GAA has a huge following right across the country and nowhere more so than here in Ulster.

From January 5 a bright new weekly publication hit the shops to cater for the hundreds of thousands of GAA followers right across Ulster. Published in a colour tabloid format Gaelic Life will be on the

shelves every Friday morning, providing a mix of features, previews and profiles as well as all the latest GAA news and views.Gaelic Life has brought together some of the North’s top GAA writers and photographers as well as an impressive list of columnists covering all aspects of Gaelic games.

Produced by the North West of Ireland Printing and Publishing Company based in Omagh, Gaelic Life comes from a company which currently has a total of six weekly publications including the Ulster Herald, Donegal News and Fermanagh Herald with a combined circulation of nearly 50,000.
Gaelic Life has secured sponsorship of one of the most prestigious competitions in Ulster GAA, the Dr McKenna Cup which is contested by all nine counties and the North’s three universities. Last year’s competition attracted record numbers of supporters with over 20,000 attending the game between then All-Ireland champions Tyrone and their close rivals Armagh.

Gaelic Life is aimed at GAA followers of both genders and across the age and social spectrum from schoolchildren and students to young professionals, parents and veteran supporters. Geographically, the publication is expected to perform strongly across the whole province.
From thought-provoking columns to in-depth interviews with the major figures in Gaelic games, Gaelic Life will offer an entertaining yet insightful new read for GAA fans. As well as focussing on the Ulster and All-Ireland intercounty Gaelic football and hurling scene, it will also provide in-depth coverage of club football, schools and colleges GAA, ladies football and camogie.

Editor Maurice Kennedy is confident that the new publication will quickly establish itself as required reading for all GAA followers in the northern province.

“Gaelic Life is a bright new publication that promises to tap into the huge interest in Gaelic games across Ulster. Every week we will reach thousands of GAA fans with our mix of match previews, features, news and opinion. We have put together a first class team of sports journalists and photographers and with some of the most respected columnists in the business we believe Gaelic Life will be a must-read for anyone with an interest in Ireland’s most popular sports.

“Presented in a colour tabloid format Gaelic Life will bring a fresh new approach to GAA coverage which we believe will be offer a real alternative to the conventional media.”
