West Tyrone Sinn Fein MLA Barry Mc Elduff has called on Gaels from throughout Tyrone to travel in large numbers to Belfast this Saturday (9th June) in support of a new Irish Language Act.
Thousands are expected to attend Saturday's march and rally which will assemble at An Cultúrlann on the Falls Road and make its way to Belfast City Hall and urging that Tyrone Gaels are well represented Barry McElduff, the Sinn Féin Chair of the Culture, Arts and Leisure Committee said, "The phenomenal growth of Irish language medium education in Tyrone, just like in the rest of the north, is a reflection of the massive language revival that is taking place and it is essential that the Irish speaking community in the six counties is accorded the same rights and opportunities that are accorded to Irish speakers in the 26 counties.
"Many groups and individuals from throughout Tyrone have already registered their support for the Act by making submissions to the consultation which has been administered by the Department of Culture, Arts and Leisure and which closes this week.
"Given that there is diehard opposition from certain quarters to an Act, it is imperative that people come out in large numbers in Belfast on Saturday to demand that there is no attempt to block or dilute what is required. I would therefore call upon Tyrone Gaels to make sure that they are well represented at Saturday's March."
