Now that the holiday season is over, and the chances of getting an authentic tan are gone with it, our only option this party season is to fake it!
Tan from the bottle is a lot cheaper than making frequent trips to the sun beds, and it's a lot safer too.
With so many lotions and potions out there, from sprays to gels, whipped foams to bronzers, it's hard to decide which works best for you.
St Tropez is one of the most popular store brands. Their Self Tanning Mousse is one of the easiest to apply. It is streak free and gives an instant colour, so it is easy to see how much and where you are putting it! The oil-free tan will deepen in colour over 3 hours and will hold its colour for a couple of days. It is priced at £30 in Boots for a 240ml bottle.
For those of us who want an instant tan that comes off after one shower, Rimmel Sun Shimmer fits the bill perfectly. Rimmel Sun Shimmer gold is an instant illuminating sun makeup for the legs. It glides on to the skin easily leaving it soft and hydrated. It is priced at £2.79 per 100ml. Just watch out for the rain - you could be left with unwanted streaks!
Johnson's Holiday Skin Lotion has added fake tanning ingredients into its moisturiser to help build a light tan after a few applications. So whilst leaving your skin moisturised and soft all day it also gradually builds a beautiful, light and even looking tan. It is very authentic looking and lasts a long time with continued application. It costs £1.98 per 100ml.
Once you have chosen the perfect tan for you, always remember these 3 easy steps for a perfect, streak free tan:
1. Make sure you have exfoliated your skin well whilst showering, by scrubbing away any dead or dry skin. Dry skin will only be made more noticeable when fake tan is applied.
2. Moisturise your skin after showering to leave skin feeling smooth and hydrated. You will get the best colour results if skin is in good condition.
3. Apply tan using gloves to avoid getting orange hands when the tan develops! St Tropez have latex gloves priced at £2.50 for 5 pairs.
