Deliberate fire 'put lives at risk'

A deliberate fire at a block of flats at Lisnafin Park on Sunday has been condemned by the local community association.

A number of people had to be escorted from the building after a piece of bed linen was set alight in a corridor.

Group Commander Eamonn Gallagher said: "It appears that a piece of bedding was set alight and the exact cause is still under investigation."

Condemning those behind the incident, Lisnafin Community Association project worker Damien Gavigan said: "I would urge whoever was behind this fire to think about what they are doing. While no one was injured, the occupants of all nearby flats were put at risk and this could have much more serious consequences. We will also be monitoring the estate in the run up to Halloween to ensure any bonfire activity is carried out safely and hopefully we won't see a repeat of this sort of incident," he said.
