THE Ulster Cancer Foundation (UCF) is calling all Primary 6 and 7 schoolteachers in Strabane to enrol their classes in Smokebusters - an exclusive club for children who have chosen to reject smoking and promote health in their day-to-day lives.
Last year 29,760 schoolchildren became Smokebusters across the Six Counties. That's a staggering 62.5% of all Primary 6 and 7 pupils in the country and the highest ever enrolment in the programme.
MEMBERS
It's easy to see why so many schoolchildren are Smokebuster members - with puzzles, quizzes and great competitions on offer, it conveys an important health promotion message as well as being fun.
It couldn't be easier - joining the Smokebusters Club is FREE and open to ALL schools throughout Northern Ireland.
Smokebusters is organised locally by UCF. Recent research into the Northern Ireland Smokebusters programme through the University of Ulster Science Shop shows that teachers who regularly subscribe to the project found the club resources to be very relevant to the school health education curriculum and the materials were very appealing to the children.
Teachers are reminded that classes need to be enrolled on an annual basis and new members are most welcome. If you would like to register or want further information about Smokebusters please contact Judith West at UCF on 028 9066 3281, e-mail: judithwest@ulstercancer.org or alternatively log onto www.ulstercancer.org/smokebusters
