Aghyaran's maintain top flight status for another year

AGHYARAN made sure that they will be playing senior football next season after winning their final game 1-10 to 0-6 away to an Eglish side that had nothing to play for after securing their status last week.

The St Davog's led 1-4 to 0-3 at the break with Michael Anderson getting their goal and Jude Hans kicking a couple of points, Brendan Donnelly among the St Patrick's points. In the second half Anthony Devine, Martin Penrose and Shane Sweeney all got their names on the score sheet as the visitors picked up a comfortable win, Aidan McCann and Martin McCann registering for the home side.

Cookstown went into their game at home to Clonoe knowing that defeat spelt Intermediate football for them next season but as expected they proved too strong for a Clonoe side who were missing a number of regulars.

The first half was a close enough affair with Owen Mulligan and Patrick Doris among the points for their respective sides before Raymond Mulgrew bagged the only goal of the game to put the Father Rocks five clear at the interval.

In the second half the home side dominated with Mulligan, Martin Murray, Jason Quinn and Conor Mullan all on target as they strolled to victory to set up a likely winner takes all relegation play-off encounter with Donaghmore.

Moy moved up to second place in the Intermediate table and within three points of league leaders Clann na nGael after a comfortable win away to an Eskra side that had steered clear of relegation trouble the previous weekend.

It was a repeat of their championship meeting and while the result was the same the margin of victory was more convincing this time around. Ryan Mellon, Sean Cavanagh and Niall Conlan all found the Emmets' net in the first half as Moy led 3-4 to 0-7 at the break, Ryan Gartland the main marksman for the home side. In the second half Kris Kavanagh added another major with Cavanagh, Mellon and Karol McQuade among the points as Moy ran out 4-9 to 0-9 winners.

Ardboe U21s have followed in the footsteps of their minors as they qualified for the county final on Saturday when beating Clonoe 0-11 to 0-7 at Derrylaughan.

The Rossas had the wind at their backs in the opening half and they made that advantage pay with Anthony Devlin, Nishy O'Neill and Martin McKeown on target as they led 0-8 to 0-0 at the break.

The O'Rahillys made a fight of it in the second half with Patrick Doris and PJ Lavery both among the points but they had left themselves with too much to do as Ardboe made it through to the decider.

Their opponents in the final will be Coalisland who got the better of Errigal Ciaran on a 3-5 to 0-7 score line at Galbally yesterday afternoon. Conor Bayne, Brian Toner and Eoghan Carberry were the Fianna goal scorers with Peter Harte, Ciaran McGinley and John Kelly all on target with points for Errigal Ciaran.
