Lisnafin boxing
CALLING all aspiring Amir Khan's. Lisnafin Community Centre will opening its doors tonight (Thursday)at 7pm for registration for a new boxing club.
Lisnafin/Ardnalee/Trust Cross-Community Development Association has secured money from the Local Community Fund to start up a boxing club and over the past few weeks top of the range equipment has been acquired and the centre has been fitted out. To be known as Lisnafin Amateur Boxing Club, the club has been affiliated to the Irish Amateur Boxing Association (IABA).
Centre Project Co-ordinator, Damien Gavigan explained: "The youth of Lisnafin and the surrounding area are very sport orientated and our town boasts very talented soccer and GAA players. The extension of our sporting programme will offer the youth and young people the opportunity to take part in alternative sporting activities. We are very grateful to the Local Community Fund and the Department for Social Development for funding this project and we are very lucky to have acquired the expertise of local IABA qualified coach Robert 'Busty' Cunningham, who has been involved in boxing for a long time and who has enlisted the assistance of two other IABA qualified coaches, Eugene and Mark McGarrigle.
"Boxing is a very disciplined sport and will help towards the personal development of those young people taking part. Membership of the Club will be open to all boys and girls from the age of 11 years and upwards. Lisnafin ABC will be looking forward to participating in forthcoming tournaments and competitions throughout Ireland," Mr Gavigan explained.
Talking newspaper
The Strabane and District Talking Newspaper record and distribute a Weekly News and Magazine tape to the Blind and Partially sighted in th Strabane District. The flag day collection was held in September and £622.17 was donated. The Commitee wish to thank all who contributed so generously to the fund and also the collectors who gave of their time and support.
LIFFORD
Halloween Dance
Lifford Community Hospital will hold their annual halloween fancy dress dance in McBrides lounge, Castlefin on Friday 26th October. Dancing is from 10 pm to 1 am with the music being provided by Alex Black and a host of special guests. Admission for all halloween revellers is 5 euro with all the proceeds going to Lifford Hospital patients comfort fund. There will be prizes for the best fancy dress costumes.
Olympic Gold
Congratulations to the Irish soccer team in this years Special Olympics, which included three talented Lifford players. The World Games held this year in Shanhai, China proved to be a huge success and their efforts was watched by a worldwide television audience of millions. The group of eleven soccer players proved too good for their opposition and walked away winners in all of their seven competitive games, beating France in the final. The three local players who received gold medals were Adrian Clarke, Gareth Egan and Ryan Doherty.
Quiz Final
A total of six competitive quiz teams turned out for the Rehab quiz night held at the Central Bar in Lifford on Friday evening. The quiz master for the evening was Ian McLaughlin, assisted by his wife Rita who kept the scores and checked the answer sheets. The questions were difficult even for the season quiz team. The winning team were "Jack Daniels" who finished up with a total of 41 points out of a possible 60 points. They will now go through to the regional county final. Runners-up went to the team called "Barneys Little Fish" with a total of 28 points. There was raffle for spot prizes on the evening with the winners being 1st- Dermot Shields, 2nd - Joe Gibson and 3rd - Johnny McCarron.
Storytelling
Lifford Community Library will have special features all during the month of October which are open to everyone. It can easily be described as a featival of fun, art and culture with themes such as cultural heritage and multiculturalism. All events are free but bookings are essential to avoid disappointment as numbers will be limited. Monday 22nd October at 10.30 am will feature Living History with Michael Moylan presenting "The Flight of the Earls" which is suitable for 8 to 12 year olds. Wednesday 24th October there will be storytelling with Liz Weir for 6 to 10 year olds.
Thursday 25th October another storyteller Stephen Hall will have for the season almost upon us some halloween tales suitable for 10 year olds and well into mature years. On Friday 26th October storyteller Liam Farrell will conclude the season with "The Big Good Wolf" for ages 6 to 12 year olds. The Library can be contacted by telephoning (074) 9172726.
Pioneer Pins
The Pioneer Total Abstinence Association wish to hear from any of its members who are eligible to receive a gold or silver pioneer pin to contact the Parish Office at Murlog as soon as possible.
Volunteers Sought
The Irish Wheelchair Association (IWA) is seeking volunteers to participate in its annual sponsored international walk next Easter from 19th to 29th March.
All funds raised will help the Wheelchair Association and provide essential services for people with limited mobility.

Carers Group
The Lifford and Castlefin Carers Group now hold monthly meetings in the Lifford/Clonleigh Resource Centre based in Croaghan Heights. This group provides caring help for anyone who needs it and for the carers themselves. The meetings provide a valuable opportunity to gain information and assistance in a supportive environment. The next meeting will take place in November but if you are unavailabe to attend these meetings but would like to know more then please contact Olivia on (074) 9141936 or Diane on (087) 2770103.
Deele Harps
The times have changed for Monday training sessions and are now from 5 to 6 pm. All players are asked to please note the new times and to let others know of the changes. All under 14's players are asked to contact Martin Duffy,Coolatee or Dermot Foy, Cavan Hill as training is about to resume. Ant new signings for the club must produce birth certificates on the first night of training. We have been asked by the management at the astro turf pitch to point out that only players and club officials are allowed inside the pitch with no exceptions for supporters or on-lookers. The seniors lost 3-0 on Sunday to Kildrum tigers in the F.A.I Junior Cup with the game being held in St Johnstone. The clubs mangement, officials and suppoters send their hearty congratulations to Alan and Cheyrl McBeth on the recent birth of the baby girl to be named Sarah. Equal congratulations to Pat Flynn and Edel Wilson who were married on Friday.
A Halloween Happening
The Old Courthouse in Lifford presents as part of their Murder, Mystery evening "Things that go bump in the night".
The evening will be filled with deceptive developments, dark deeds where the courthouse cells are haunted like no other.
Not a living soul has been able to remain there with the lights turned out.
