Cross-border group winds up

I am writing to inform you that after working 11 years peacebuilding and for the Comunities on both sides of the border the voluntary Committee of DergFinn Partnership has decided to cease activity after August 31.

Our cross-border activities and centre in Ballybofey will close but our committee will continue to meet.

For your information this is because of lack of adequate funding for our cross-border community organisation; this is in the light of no definite bridge funding to Peace III and because our target groups (i.e. carers, former carers, unwaged, single parents and older people) do not fit into Peace III.

The lack of any alternative and timely project funding streams means that we regret having to do this action and hope that other organisations will be able to fill any gaps left for the disadvantaged in the West Tyrone/East Donegal area.

Since the start of 2008, we have been lobbying politicians for their support but this has been to no avail.

However we would like to thank Marian Harkin, Brian O Domhnaill, Dinny McGinnley, Mary Coughlan, Barry McElduff, Bairbre de Brúin, Michelle Gildernew, Pearse Doherty and Pat Doherty for their efforts and representations on our behalf.

To end we wish anyone who has worked with us, participated in any of our events etc. the best in the future.

We hope we made a difference.

Paul Anderson

Project Manager
